September or October was quoted as being the iPhone release date for Verizon. Detractors are saying that this rumor of an iPhone on the Verizon network being released soon categorically isn’t true. CDMA network compatibility will determine the Verizon iPhone release date
Some say the Verizon iPhone release date could possibly be in October of this year. Apple is also suspected to be working on a thinner, faster iPhone. Both of these developments depend on a CDMA wireless chip being produced for the iPhone.
Qualcomm confirmed they’re designing an Apple CDMA chip, but also told CNN they would be “very hard pressed” to complete it by the end of 2010. No amount of easy cash loans can speed up the manufacturing process for a chip that has been in development for years. Even if Qualcomm has a functioning CDMA or multi-network chip, Apple would need to re manufacture the iPhone to handle the new chip manufacturer.
2011 is target date for Verizon iPhone release
Yes, there are technology issues with a Verizon iPhone. On top of this, though, there is also the fact that even the Wall Street Journal article quotes that Apple “appears to be” working on a Verizon-compatible iPhone. It is no secret that Apple has been working on a CDMA chip for the iPhone, and is in fact working with Qualcomm on WCDMA multi-channel chip that would allow the phone to work across most cellular networks.
Just because Apple “appears to be working on” something and admitted to be working on does not make the Verizon iPhone release date immanent. Most industry watchers agree that if it happens, the Verizon iPhone will release in 2011.
